Ticino’s only cogwheel railway runs to Monte Generoso. The 1,789-metre-high summit boasts stunning views of the area’s lakes, valleys and Alpine peaks.

How to get there

Travel by train or boat from Lugano to Capolago-Riva San Vitale. From here, it’s a 40 min ascent via rail to the summit. In summer, a steam train runs along this last section of the journey.
